A Memorable FEDELE Conference

Chris and I had a lovely time attending the FEDELE conference in Spain this past fall. After our wedding in September we decided to head to Spain a bit early and spend our honeymoon in the Northeast of Spain (Catalonia), before meeting in Barcelona for the FEDELE annual conference.

FEDELE (Federacion de Escuelas de Espanol como Lengua Extranjera) is an organization consisting of six associations that represent 90 Spanish schools in Spain. FEDELE's main objective is to promote a status of quality language school instruction. The annual meeting functions as a place where agents are able to meet delegates from around 50 different Spanish schools all over Spain. As agents, we were invited to attend the three-day workshop in Barcelona, followed by a tour of a specific region also hosted by FEDELE in conduction with the Spanish Ministry of Education Culture.

The portion in Barcelona was focused upon meeting with representatives from schools all over Spain in addition to touring many schools located in Barcelona. The evenings were filled with incredible tours and dinners out in Barcelona where we were able to familiarize ourselves with the local culture and get to better know the school representatives. As two of the only four Americans and with over 150 agents and educators, we could have spent an entire week getting to know everyone!

Following the Barcelona portion, we signed up for the tour "FAM trip," focused upon the Valencian community. For three additional days, we toured more schools and local communities while staying in lovely boutique hotels and sampling every variation of the traditional paella and local wine.

All in all, it was a fabulous week filled with over 25 school visitations, many wonderful stories and laughs shared with an international community, and far too many delicious meals to remember. Chris and I were very impressed with the quality of the schools we saw as well as the professionalism of the representatives and have our work cut out for us adding new locations to those that SG Spanish Schools already represents. We very much are looking forward to our next FEDELE conference!
