Housed in a historic colonial building, the school is in a residential area of Quito, only a short ride to the city center by bus. With an interior patio, internet access, as well as its breathtaking surroundings, Academia Latinoamericano is the perfect location for an immersive cultural experience and education. For being quite a large city Quito has kept its small town atmosphere, blending a friendly and traditional community feel with modern culture. Traveling in and outside of Ecuador is easy from Quito, a city that boasts a very efficient bus system as well as an airport. In addition, the trade communication between Quito and the rest of Ecuador is thriving, with the city being the most important marketing center in Ecuador for artisan goods.

Ecuador Standard 20 Spanish

20 lessons of group Spanish courses per week totaling 18 hours and 20 minutes. Small group courses are limited to a maximum of 5 students per class, and are broken into two, 1 hour and 50 minute blocks each morning.

Ecuador Intensive 30 Spanish

20 lessons of group intensive Spanish courses plus 10 private one-on-one courses totaling 27 hours and 30 minutes each week. Group courses are taught each morning and one-on-one courses each afternoon.

Ecuador Private 1:1 Courses (20 lessons / week)

This course consists of 20 lessons per week of private 1:1 lessons (one student, one teacher ratio) per week taught in small groups. Each private Spanish lesson is 55 minutes in length and can be tailored to the exact learning goals of each student. Private lessons are a great way to progress quickly in a short amount of time, get intensive conversation practice, and work on specific topics that may not be covered at length in other courses. All tutors are native speakers with teaching certificates in the Spanish language.

Host Family Ecuador

(Private room, half-board) Living with a local Ecuadorian family in Quito is the best way to learn a lot of Spanish in a short amount of time. Families are hand-selected by the accommodation staff and are very experienced in hosting students from around the world. They can accommodate virtually any diet, allergy or preference. In addition, anyone from singles to marries couples to parents with children can be accommodated. Families are generally located within a 10-20 minute walk or bus ride from campus. Note: It is very appreciated and a nice gesture to bring your host family a small gift or souvenir from your home city or country when you arrive!

After arriving in Ecuador at the Mariscal Sucre International Airport (website), there are a couple of transportation options available for students to choose from:

  • For $20, your host family can pick you up from the airport and provide transportation into Quito.

  • Public buses are constantly running from the airport to anywhere in the city. Standard fare is 25 cents, and it is recommended that students don't carry valuables if choosing this mode of transportation.

  • Metered taxis are available at the airport. If the taxi does not have a meter, it is important to decide on the set fee before starting the ride.

After arriving, students will meet with the administrative staff the next day (Monday) at the school and receive a map that will help with further navigation of the city

Learning about the country of Ecuador, including its history and people, is an important additional part of the curriculum at Academia Latinoamericano. Trips to places of interest are offered through the school, and these organized group activities are available 2-4 times per week. A stocked library at Academia Latinoamericano is also accessible to help students plan and navigate their journeys. A few examples of possible excursions include:

  • Take the Teleférico (cable car) up the Pichincha Volcano

  • Visit the Mitad del Mundo (equator)

  • Stroll through the Guayasamín Museum

  • Marvel at the products sold at the Handicrafts Market

  • Leisurely movie nights, pick-up soccer games, or other activities with peers

  • Plan a trip to the Galapagos Islands, Cotopaxi, the rainforest, and much more!

Classes are held in small groups (with a maximum of 5 students) at the Academia Latinoamericano Ecuador. Courses are held either inside or outside depending on the group's preference. Despite the casual atmosphere, classes are intensive and students will progress with their Spanish speaking and writing skills at a quick pace. To evaluate this progress weekly exams are given.
