The Area & School

Montreal is the jewel of French Canada. Boasting vibrant culinary, design, music and art scenes, the city is not to be missed. If you plan to visit in the winter, prepare for snow and cold temperatures. If summer is more your style, you'll be met with beautiful weather and comfortable temperatures. The French school is located conveniently in the heart of old Montreal, near metro stations, and within a short distance of most of the notable sites and attractions in the city, including the famous Notre-Dame Basilica. The school building is equipped with modern classrooms, a rooftop terrace, high-speed WiFi, a library, and kitchenette.

French Courses

Standard 18 French

This course consists of 18 lessons of Intensive French language study per week, Monday through Friday. Lessons will focus on speaking, reading, writing, and listening to French. Students will build real word communicative skills while building grammar and vocabulary. Each lesson is 50 minutes in length. Four lessons will be taught Monday - Thursday and two lessons will be taught on Friday.

Intensive 30 French

The Intensive 30 French Immersion program consists of 30 lessons per week taught Monday through Friday. Each lesson is 50 minutes in length. Instructors tailor lessons to focus on speaking, reading, writing, and listening to French. Students will build real word communicative skills while building grammar and vocabulary.

Host Family

(Private room, half-board) Living with a host family in Montreal is the best way to take your French immersion experience to the next level. Hosts will provide students with a private bedroom and two meals per day. Guests will also be issued a key to come and go as they please.

It is recommended that students fly into Pierre Trudeau International Airport in Montreal. The school can arrange private airport pickup if you are arriving on the Sunday before your program begins. If you are arriving at on any other day, you will be responsible for arranging your own transportation and accommodation until your Sunday check-in.

Your learning experience in Montreal won't end in the classroom each day. The school organizes a variety of activities each week. Some weekday activities are free and some require a small fee. Example activities include:

The school will also organize regular weekend outings and excursions. Fees vary, and there is no need to sign up ahead of time, as they will be planned at the beginning of each week based on student interest. Example excursions include:

  • Visit Niagara Falls
  • Visit the top of the CN tower
  • Whale watching on the Saint Laurence River
  • Visit the Statue of Liberty
  • Visit Parliament in Ottawa
  • Skiing the Laurentian slopes
