The Area & School

Rouen is a charming city located about an hour from Paris. As the capital of Upper Normandy, Rouen is rich with history, food, wine and culture and is a wonderful place to learn French. The French school is located in the verdant Rouen Botanical Gardens. Housed in a beautiful building, the school provides French lessons in 12 spacious classrooms. The building also offers wheelchair access and free WiFi throughout. The school is conveniently located in the heart of the city, within walking distance of cafes, bars, shops and restaurants.

French Courses

Standard 15 French

15 lessons of intensive French courses per week totaling 15 hours, plus 5 bonus hours of cultural lessons. Small group class sizes are limited to 10 students.

25 small-group intensive French lessons per week, plus 5 hours of bonus cultural activities and and orientation session. Small group class sizes are limited to 10 students.

Accommodation

Host Family

(Private room, half-board) Staying with a French host family is a great way to learn French more quickly by being exposed to native conversations throughout the week. Students will be issued a private room in the home, and the family will provide bedding and linens, as well as two meals per day during the week, three on weekends.

Studio Residence

Travelers looking for a more independent option may book a private studio in the hotel residence, just nine minutes walking from the school. With this option, guests will be provided with a private room, internet, daily breakfast, linens and bedding. The studio residences are located near the center of the town an public transportation.

School Closures

The school will close Friday December 18th, 2015 and reopen Monday January 4th, 2016 for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

No classes will be held on the following public holidays. Students will not lose program hours due to holidays. Missed course time will be made up during the rest of the week.

Paris to Rouen by train

The easiest way to arrive into Rouen is to fly into Paris and and take the train. Trains depart the St Lazare station multiple times daily. (Schedules can be found here)[http://www.voyages-sncf.com/].

Le Havre to Rouen by train or taxi

Students flying into La Havre can either take a taxi directly to Rouen (15 €) or take a train from Le Havre to Rouen (20 €).

Note from Wikitravel: Note that the train posting in Paris St-Lazare can be confusing to the first time traveler. The train platform number ("la voie") is not posted unil 15-20 minutes before the departure, so do not panic if you arrive earlier than that. Look for the train heading to Le Havre or Dieppe which will be leaving from the platforms to the right as you enter the concourse. Do not forget to punch ("composter") your ticket in one of the yellow machines before boarding. This will validate your ticket.

Courses are taught in the communicative style and focus on a combination of skills including conversation, listening, vocabulary, reading and writing A variety of teaching methods are employed including group discussions, role playing, cultural activities, listening exercises, reading and writing.
