(Private room, half-board) Living with a local Spanish family is the best way to learn a lot of Spanish in a short amount of time. Host family students are given a private room and their own key so they can come and go as they please. All host families live in flats, individual houses are rare in Barcelona. Apartment buildings (both old and modern) are rarely more than 8 floors high. A typical flat will have 3 or 4 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room and living room. Some flats have terraces; almost all of them have balconies. Half board (daily breakfast and dinner) and laundry service is included in the price of the host family.
