A sampling of affordable activities the school can happily arrange for you include:
The school uses a communicative immersion method for teaching the Spanish language. Students of all abilities, from no-experience, to near fluency, are eligible for the program. Upon arrival, students are given a placement test to determine their correct level. Asturias is a perfect place for a Spanish immersion program because most residents only speak Spanish in the region. All courses are taught completely in Spanish by native speakers. The four, 50 minute Intensive Spanish classes are held Monday to Friday during the mornings.
The Asturias region is fairly mild, with yearly temperatures ranging from 44 F (7 C) to 76 (24 C) F. August is the warmest month with daily average highs around 71 F (22 C). January is the coldest month with daily average lows around 46 F (6 C). The weather will get a bit more unpredictable and colder as one gains elevation in The Picos de Europa mountains, and on the coast.
July is the sunniest month with 14 hours of sun per day. Spring is generally mild. April receives the most rainfall and the region warms up and dries out through June.
Woof! (Yes). As long as your dog is well behaved, you can bring her to the school and on the treks.
It varies from week to week, but this school definitely attracts an older demographic than schools in warm beach areas or large cities. Students routinely enroll in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and even 70s. As long as you are fit enough for the hikes (if you choose to participate) and ready to learn and try new things, you won't feel out of place at all.
