Learn Spanish in Santiago, Chile

The Area & School

Santiago, Chile’s capital, is nestled into the Central Valley at the foot of the Andes Mountains. It is a safe and exciting city that has undergone a cultural renaissance in recent years. Many of Latin America’s most notable restaurants, galleries, bars and parks are dispersed throughout the city, in hip neighborhoods like El Golf and Barrio Brasil.

Santiago’s warm Mediterranean climate makes it the perfect place to learn Spanish. The Tandem School is housed in a charming old mansion in the center of the city, just minutes from Barrio Bellavista. Spanish immersion courses are taught Monday through Friday in the school’s ten classrooms. The school is equipped with WiFi, a library and resource center and common areas for students to enjoy snacks and espresso during breaks.

All teachers are native speakers with university degrees. Tandem employs a communicative and interactive methodology for teaching Spanish. Students will take a placement test before arriving and be placed into one of 7 levels. These levels are designed to take one week each, allowing the student to progress through the complete Spanish grammar very rapidly. Higher level classes will focus on more advanced concepts and vocabulary, using videos, Chilean literature, newspapers and music as a basis for discussion.

In accordance with the Tandem Method, students will also be given the option to pair with a Chilean language exchange partner for extra practice.
